Invite: Oversight Hearing Veteran Homelessness - OC
I hope you had a meaningful Veterans Day. As we continue to recognize and reflect on the men and women who have sacrificed for our country, take a moment to watch this video from our first annual Veterans Day celebration, where we saluted the achievements and community contributions of twelve local veterans.
We owe a profound debt of gratitude to the brave men and women who have served in the Armed Forces, and I am committed to making sure our veterans receive the state and federal resources they have earned.
According to the most recent Point-in-Time count - a count conducted by local organizations and volunteers to determine the number of sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness on one night - there are approximately 300 homeless veterans currently living in Orange County. This is obviously an alarming statistic, and one that we must continue to address.
It is my hope, this hearing is a good place to begin.

As the Chair of the Assembly Accountability and Administrative Review Committee, and a member of the Assembly Veterans Affairs Committee, I have convened this hearing to review the scope and scale of veteran homelessness in Orange County, best practices and lessons learned and concrete plans the County and local organizations like the United Way have in the works to end veteran homelessness in 2020.
The agenda can be viewed here.
