Oversight Hearing

Employment Development Department

SACRAMENTO – Today, Wednesday, October 7, 2020, as Chair of the Assembly Accountability and Administrative Review Committee, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris will be participating in a Budget Committee oversight hearing. The legislators will ask California’s Employment Development Department (EDD) Strike Team questions about their plan to better serve the public’s unemployment insurance claims during the pandemic, focusing on service levels, capacity, efficiency and technology modernization.

“As the EDD strike team report acknowledged, a transformational change is required in order to fix this department,” said Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Laguna Beach).  “EDD was a failing Department before this crisis. This crisis has brought its failings into sharp focus. Today we’ll examine if the new systems put in place can resolve the backlog so Californians don’t have to wait one more minute for their benefits.”
