In honor of Women’s HERstory month Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, in partnership with Girls’s Inc. and Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties, will host the inaugural Assembly District 74 Young Women’s Empowerment Day Conference.

This is a fantastic, FREE opportunity to hear messages by professional women in their diverse careers. The discussions will focus on education, transition to college, careers, self-esteem, community engagement and personal growth, amongst others. In addition, a mini college fair will take place in the morning to give students a chance to interact with colleges.

On March 14, my office will be hosting a Young Women's Empowerment Conference at Orange Coast College. The purpose of the conference is to help the young women of the 74th Assembly district engage with community stakeholders, and learn various ways they can empower themselves in their further academic and professional pursuits. We are excited to announce that we have Kirsten Vangsness of 'Criminal Minds' as our keynote speaker.  Programming such as emotional wellness, college/career paths, social media awareness and women in government will be highlighted topics.

The Assembly Select Committee on Student Debt is holding an informational hearing titled “Student Debt Impacts on California Neighborhoods.” A growing body of research has explored how borrower distress concentrates heavily in communities of color, creating new structural barriers to opportunity. Higher education leaders and subject matter experts will discuss how the student debt crisis is affecting California’s local communities and how the California State Legislature can address this crisis in the 2020 legislative session.
